Shopping Centre Social Media Competition

To tie into the recent surge in popularity of all things geek and the local comic-con event, we created the ‘Preston XP’ campaign. This was a series of summer events for St George’s Shopping Centre celebrating the weird and wonderful world of sci-fi.

As part of this campaign, the team ran a competition across the Preston shopping centre’s social media channels. This competition gave one lucky shopper the chance to win a gaming hamper, including a brand new PS4, donated by one of the centre’s retailers.

The social media competition took the form of a custom video taken from the first person perspective and was designed to look like an old arcade style racing game. Users were asked to count how many shopping bags appeared on the screen in the mix of other items jumping out to surprise and provide their answer in the comments.

The footage was shot in real time and featured a fly through of St George’s mall space. The team’s overall aim for the competition was to drive engagement on the centre’s Facebook page and encourage new visitors and interactions.

RESULTS OF  THE SHOPPING CENTRE SOCIAL MEDIA COMPETITION

Social media competitions are a great way to boost online engagement. But, when combined with an in store competition, they are a great way to boost shopping centre footfall and purchases.
